Street & Clubstyles Lab by Tanzplattform Rhein-Main 

 

Tanzplattform Rhein-Main is seeking professional dancers and choreographers from the Street and Clubstyles scene, based in the Rhein-Main region, to participate in the Street & Clubstyles Lab—a laboratory for choreographic work led by French choreographer Saïdo Lehlouh at Künstler*innenhaus Mousonturm in Frankfurt/ Main. Tanzplattform Rhein-Main is a cooperation project between Frankfurt’s Künstler*innenhaus Mousonturm and Hessisches Staatsballett, affiliated with the State Theatres in Wiesbaden and Darmstadt. 

What is the Street & Clubstyles Lab? 

This residency program supports dancers and choreographers working in styles such as House, HipHop, Ballroom, Waacking, Locking, Popping, Afro-styles, and other Street and Clubstyles. It aims to bridge the diverse expressions of the Street and Clubstyles scene with the broader independent and institutional dance sectors. 

Timeline and Structure 

The program will run across five weekends between March and June 2025 at Künstler*innenhaus Mousonturm in Frankfurt am Main. It offers space for deep exchanges, methodological workshops, and hands-on mentorship from experienced experts. 

What We Offer 

  • Workshops and artistic guidance tailored specifically for artists in Street and Clubstyles. 
  • Individual mentorship by Saïdo Lehlouh, with ongoing feedback on concepts and ideas. 
  • Insights into production processes, choreographic techniques, and navigating the intersection between independent scenes and institutional theaters. 
  • A creative space to develop and refine artistic concepts. 
  • A platform to present initial ideas during a public sharing at Künstler*innenhaus Mousonturm.If you have long-term collaborators (e.g., dramaturgy, production, or technical support), you can invite them to join relevant thematic sessions.  
  • Compensation for participation in the residency. 

 

 

 

 

Mentor: Saïdo Lehlouh 

The residency will be guided and co-conceived by Saïdo Lehlouh, one of the leading figures in Europe’s Street and Clubstyle scene. A choreographer, dancer, and co-director of the renowned Collectif FAIR-E, Saïdo is known for his innovative approach connecting urban dance styles with contemporary art. Collectif FAIR-E, recently spotlighted at Tanzfestival Rhein-Main, is celebrated for groundbreaking productions that captivate audiences worldwide. 

Saïdo brings extensive experience in choreography, theater work, and production processes, offering participants practical inspiration and expert support throughout the creative journey. 

Who Can Apply? 

We are looking for five professional dancers and choreographers who: 

  • Live and work in the Rhein-Main region. 
  • Are active and experienced in the Street and Clubstyles scene. 
  • Are interested in expanding their choreographic skills and establishing themselves in the independent dance scene. 
  • Are open to new artistic approaches and interdisciplinary collaboration. 

Residency Dates 

Participation in all sessions is mandatory. The residency will take place at Künstler*innenhaus Mousonturm on the following dates:

How to Apply 

Submit the following documents: 

  • Explain why you want to participate in the Street & Clubstyles Lab, including your experience in choreography and theater (if applicable). If you have an idea or artistic concept you’d like to develop, please describe it. Which communities do you envision as your audience? Reflect on which types of spaces you see as potential stages or your ideal performance space? (Max. 2 DinA 4 pages). 
  • A text about your dance journey and influential encounters in your artistic career (instead of a traditional CV). (Max. 1 DinA 4 page) 
  • Links to video/ social media
