The Frankfurt ballroom community "anybody walking?" and the Tanzplattform Rhein-Main invite you to the big hall of the Mousonturm to celebrate voguing, ballroom culture and music as self-empowerment of queer, non-binary and trans* people of color. We start late in the morning on the rehearsal stages with workshops for the community, then offer space in the foyer and on the terrace to sit, eat, drink and exchange ideas. After a talk with invited guests, we move on to the Kiki Ball, the dance highlight of the ballroom scene. Participating artists from the region and international stars compete in 11 categories for beginners and advanced dancers:

Beginners Performance

Ballroomculture emerged in the early 1970s in Harlem, New York. Marginalized by the white and heterosexual majority society, Black and Latinx people from the LGBTIQ+ community came together in so-called ballrooms, spaces where they could feel safe, founded surrogate families (so-called "houses"), danced and performed playfully with, for and against each other.

The initiative "anybody walking?" was founded in 2018 under the original name "Voguing in Hessen" and has since cultivated the local ballroom scene in Hessen and the surrounding area. In addition to regular meetings and trainings, it has actively contributed to the transmission of Ballroom arts by organizing workshops with renowned, national and international artists of the Ballroom community, such as Arturo Mugler, Diva Ivy Balenciaga or Georgina Leo Saint Laurent, and in collaboration with local dance schools. Over the years, members have participated in countless balls in Europe and overseas. With the growth of the local community in Frankfurt, they have been able to organize smaller events (practice balls) and last year the first Kiki Ball in Frankfurt. anybody walking? cooperates with local organizations and initiatives such as LLL e.V., the feminist DJ collective GG VYBE and the Frankfurt artist collective c.c.bb.069. They also act as speakers for ballroom and queer culture in the Frankfurt area.
