The Big Outdoor Dance Event!

Hessisches Staatsballett, together with choreographer and dance professor Hannah Shakti Bühler and dancer-choreographer Simon Mayer, invites you to the FolkDanceParty 2.0 – an extraordinary dance experience where the audience becomes the participants!

FolkDanceParty is a hosted dancefloor – an evening that celebrates community and transforms the art of partying into a resource for times of instability. Inspired by both ancient and contemporary traditions and rituals, the audience is taken on a journey through participatory, guided, and performative moments, exploring diverse dance styles and playful dance forms.

The dancefloor will be brought to life with DJ sets and live music by Simon Mayer, Hannah Shakti Bühler, and guest musicians.

For those who want to dive deeper, there will be two preparatory workshops leading up to the event. These sessions offer an opportunity to explore the artists' practices and research and to get to know the FolkDanceParty concept. Participants will be invited to discover a variety of dance styles, formations, and traditions – and to immerse themselves in collective dance experiences.

Simon Mayer and Hannah Shakti Bühler’s collaborative research focuses on tradition, belonging, and their embodied expression within today’s social and political landscape. One result of this shared inquiry was the stage piece Somatic Tratata: rhythm, rapture and romance, which premiered in 2022 and has since toured internationally.

As both performers and facilitators, the duo has developed a practice around participatory, immersive formats and hosted dancefloors, which they continue to share through workshops.

In times of widespread political conflict and global challenges, they ask:
How can we create spaces for collective rituals and experiences – using dance, music, and embodied expression to explore new forms of togetherness, physical dialogue, and healing encounters?
