Contemporary Ballet
This is a ballet class for contemporary dancers focused on an efficient use of energy to achieve the dynamics and forms of ballet technique without using excess force. It will follow the structure of a regular ballet class, starting at the barre and then moving into the center. Influenced by the methodology of Jacopo Godani, the aim is to use various coordinations in relationship with the music to explore different ways to motivate movement without tension. It is aimed at dancers with an intermediate or advanced knowledge of ballet technique.

  1. What makes this a class for dance professionals?
This is a class for dancers who have some experience with ballet who who would be interested in an alternative approach. We won't focus on technique and being able to perform steps correctly but more on how we can move and use our body more freely within a framework of a technique that we are already familiar with.

  2. Is this an improvisation class, a class where we learn phrases/choreography, or both?
The class will be using set phrases throughout.
