Improvisation Techniques
Focusing on conditioning and intermuscular co-ordination, this training is developed around the functionality and efficiency of movement. Combining simple sequences and scores based on functional movements, within an improvisational creative space, a deep and organic activation of the stabilising muscular structure will be stimulated. We will explore different techniques and approaches to movement, challenging ourselves in our relationship to resistance, weight, impulse, momentum, and intention. We will address fear and let go of resistance. We will play with gravity and redirect movement. We will regulate emotions, intentions, and expectations. The class is framed around the idea of daily practice, with a deep, intense but gentle warm-up, while stimulating new patterns and skills facilitating more permeable bodies.

1. Could you say a bit about the techniques and approaches that are informing the movement in class?
We will be working with elements or specific exercises from Body-Mind Centering, Animal Locomotion, Play Fight, Fighting Monkey, and Functional Training, as well as various anatomical exploration CI exercises. (Important: I do not use the terms of specific techniques in defining my work, as I am not an official teacher of Fighting Monkey or BMC for example, but as well most of the exercises are developed forms or inspired by. Mentioned here only as an orientation).

2. How will we work with addressing fear and resistance or emotions?
Targeting our parasympathetic responses with several games/exercises, we will look for a strong permeability in our bodies and a state of no resistance. We will explore fluid movement, embrace the falling moment, search for the back space, redirect movement and use gravity as an engine. Throughout the class we will try to regulate the input in movement, both in terms of energy and intention. Eventually, emotions such as excitement, joy, or even ambition will arise. I will mostly support the emotional input towards a light, calm and alert state.
