The Tanzplattform Rhein-Main offers residencies that span more than one city as a very special form of production support. The Hessisches Staatsballett and Künstlerhaus Mousonturm together select one artist from the region to develop a new production in Darmstadt, Frankfurt and Wiesbaden. In addition to receiving structural and staff support, the multi-city residency also provides significant financial resources for the new production.
After the production phase, the new piece is presented both at Mousonturm, as well as at one of the venues of the Hessische Staatsballett. “Going glocal” – local roots and international networks – is an important key aspect of the multi-city residency: Tanzplattform Rhein-Main partners also support the selected artists in finding international co-production partners and developing a touring network for the project.
The first artist-in-resident was Frankfurt choreographer Paula Rosolen, who produced her new piece “Puppets” during a multi-city residency.
For the project Makulatur (meaning “mackle” in German), which is being co-produced and performed as part of a multi-city residency provided by the Tanzplattform Rhein-Main, Kristina Veit und Ksenia Ravvina are setting out in search of unrealized ideas, incomplete concepts, unfinished pieces and the moments in which they were laid aside.
Makulatur is dedicated to unfinished projects. Ravvina/veit wants to give insights into a wide range of creative processes. They want to show the processes, ideas and concepts, which remain invisible and are still an important part of – and sometimes even a driving force behind – subsequent artistic works.
The artists use the submitted materials in two ways: Together with architect Jan Wind, they developed an exhibit featuring all submissions, which was shown in October 2017 as part of the Tanzfestival Rhein-Main at Künstlerhaus Mousonturm Frankfurt am Main and at the Hessische Staatstheater Wiesbaden. The exhibit handeled the submitted materials from a particular perspective. For the performance, ravvina/veit will examine the materials in terms of their contents, contexts and textures together with three performers. The main focus will lie both on the general motifs of abandoning, terminating and letting go of something, as well as on the meaning of each and every rejected idea, no matter how small.

A production by ravvina/veit in cooparation with the program „Cross-municipal Residencies“ of Tanzplattform Rhein-Main. Funded by Kulturamt der Stadt Frankfurt am Main, Hessisches Ministerium für Wissenschaft und Kunst and Naspa Stiftung.
The female artist collective ravvina/veit has been working on its own radical form language between dance, theatre and performance for the last 5 years. The artists have produced several projects at various German theatres, e.g. projects for the Hessische Staatstheater Wiesbaden, the Theater und Orchester Heidelberg as well as various pieces in cooperation with Künstlerhaus Mousonturm, the Frankfurt LAB and the Schwankhalle in Bremen.
