In this residency, we will be searching for a “Parranda”. The research’s focus will be collective joy and ritual. It takes inspiration from La Parranda de San Pedro, a Venezuelan dance born in a culturally syncretic context. While reflecting on this practice, how can it be “decolonial”? Along with the mysteries of the intangible heritage, our perspective aims to redefine spirituality and find connections to our living times.
Marialejandra Rodríguez, Nadja Simchen, Camilla Fiumara and Katelyn Skelley are some of the dancers and researchers involved in this collaboration. This is part of a documentation project called: Investigating Syncretism of movement identities.
Funded by the Federal Government Commissioner for Culture and the Media in the NEUSTART KULTUR program, relief program DISTANZEN of the Dachverband Tanz Deutschland.
